If you're like many parents and family, your child's first birthday is a big deal to you, even if the little one doesn't quite yet understand what all the fuss is about. One way to preserve the special memories from this milestone birthday is to create a scrapbook to remember it by. You can create a layout in a larger scrapbook or a mini scrapbook devoted just to this event. No matter how you choose to approach it, there are many creative ways in which to mark the day.
Many birthday parties include a theme, so if you throw a party (even if it's just for immediate family) with a theme, use this as a starting point for your first birthday scrapbook pages. It will be easier to create, as you can use items from the party (such as designs from plates and napkins), and will help keep the memories fresh. You can also include photos of the decorations and the cake to include in the album, all of which will nicely compliment the themes of both the party and the scrapbook. This approach keeps you from using the "same old" party themes in your pages, too, which will not only keep this milestone unique, but also keeps you feeling fresh about your scrapbooking.
Choose the best photos from the day. You'll likely have at least one with your little tyke covered in cake or ice cream! Also, consider including photographs of everyone who attended. This can be particularly heartwarming later on if grandparents pass on or good friends move away. If other children attend the party, be sure to journal their names and the relationship to your child. You may feel like there's no way you'll forget, but as the years pass, the names can easily slip your mind. Children often say funny or memorable things, so be sure to jot down any great one-liners from your child or friends during the party. These can be fun to look back on later and add a wonderful personal touch.
